RECOMMENDABLE
SIGHT SEEING ON THE ROAD
All
the villages along-shore on the western coast of Lake
Como, as well as Valle Intelvi, Val Menaggio, Val Cavargna,
Val Solda up to Lugano (Switzerland), can be reached
by public means
VALLEY
D'INTELVI:
by bus from Cadenabbia or Tremezzo, connecting bus at
Argnegno. The Valley is placed between Lake Como and
Lake Ceresio (Lake Lugano), and it is also known as
a ski resort.
PLACES
OF INTEREST: the villages of Casasco, Pigra, San
Fedele, and Lanzo Intelvi and from here on foot to La
Sighignola for a breathless view over the lakes Lugano,
Como and Piano.
RIFUGIO
BOFFALORA:The
Alpine hut is situated in Valley Intelvi at 1250 meters
above sea level. It gives the possibility of lodging,
meals and refreshments starting from the 15th
of May to the 31st of October.
From Cadenabbia or Tremezzo to Argegno- Funicular to
Pigra and then on foot. It is also reachable by car
starting from Pigra through a very narrow mountain road.
Mount
Galbiga-
starting from Rifugio Boffalora, following a narrow
mule trek, after 1 hour's walk you reach Rifugio Galbiga
at 1696 meters above sea level. The Alpine hut is open
only in August. Mount Galbiga is one of the highest
mountains of Valle Intelvi and gives the opportunity
to admire one of the most beautiful landscape views
on Lake Lugano, Lake Como, Lake Del Piano and of the
Lepontine pre-Alps.
PORLEZZA:
By bus from Tremezzo or Cadenabbia, connecting bus at
Menaggio. Porlezza is a summer resort on the Italian
East Side of Lake Lugano (Ceresio). There is a typical
market along-shore every Saturday.
LUGANO:
By bus from Tremezzo or Cadenabbia, coincidence at Menaggio.
Lugano is the capital if the Swiss Canton Ticino. It
is well known for its banks, watches, chocolate and
as a tourist resort.
PLACES
OF INTEREST: gardens of Villa Ciani. Church of Santa
Maria degli Angeli with its frescoes by Bernardino Luini.
Museum of Modern Art. Villa Favorita and Villa Malpensata,
which are important places for international art exhibitions.
It is possible to reach the top of Mount Brč by funicular.
LENNO:
It is situated on the watershed of Venus bay, which
ends with the promontory of Punta Balbianello.
Lenno
is a village of very ancient origins, possibly founded
by the Greeks who here introduced the olive tree growing.
Every
Tuesday, along shore, there is a typical market.
PLACES
OF INTEREST: the Romanesque Baptistery of San Giovanni.
The paleo-Christian crypt under the Parish church. The
Shrine of Madonna del Soccorso with its 14 chapels preserving
some antique statues that represent the Mystery of the
Holy Rosary. The Abbey of Acqua Fredda. Villa del Balbianello,
which is reachable only by boat from Sala Comacina,
closed on Mondays and Wednesday.
COMO:
By bus from Cadenabbia & Tremezzo. See recommendable
excursions by boat.
